Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
Compassion, the world's leading holistic child development organization, releases children from spiritual, economic, social, and physical poverty and enable them to become responsible, fulfilled adults, who grow to break the cycle of poverty. Compassion serves more than 1.2 million children in 26 of the world's poorest countries.
Compassion's four core programs are designed to serve children from birth through young adulthood.
· Child Survival Program - This is a prenatal program that helps ensure healthy pregnancies and gives vulnerable children a healthier start in life
· Child Sponsorship Program - This program connects one child with a sponsor who provides monthly financial support and encouragement through letters throughout the life of that child
· Leadership Development Program - Provides development through higher education and leadership training for graduates of the Child Sponsorship Program
· Complementary Interventions - This program tackles barriers to healthy development, such as natural diseases, health epidemics, inadequate housing, and unsafe drinking water.
Helmer sponsored its first Compassion Child in 1997. As the company grows and reaches revenue targets, additional children are added. Helmer team members are then able to "adopt" a Compassion child by corresonding through letters while the child is part of the program. Helmer is proud to presently sponsor 31 children, providing an opportunity for health, education, life skills and hope.
